Chronic pancreatitis in an irreversible inflammatory condition resulting in permanent impairment in the pancreas exocrine and endocrine function. The question is: medical or surgical treatment? Even with ongoing advances, prognosis, and a mortality rate of 0.6% or less with theses complex pancreatic operations, many still choose to exhaust the list of medical and endoscopic methods for treatment. I propose surgery over medical treatments, specifically earlier surgery, for the benefit and lifestyle improvement of these patients.
