This dissertation investigates the relationship between socialism, nationalism, and the working class in the British and American contexts during the early 20th century, with a particular emphasis on syndicalism and revolutionary industrial unionism. By examining the role of migration in the development of labor movements and the spread of ideas across the British world, this study highlights the significance of transnational networks in shaping the experiences of workers and the diffusion of syndicalist and industrial unionist ideologies. Key figures such as James Connolly and the Irish working-class movement are analyzed to explore the interplay between socialism, nationalism, and labor. The dissertation also delves into the role of unskilled workers in Dublin's labor movement and the impact of the Housing Question on the working class during the Irish Revolution. The study concludes with an examination of the events leading up to the Easter Rising, the role of the working class in the militarization of Irish society, and the broader implications of these developments on the labor movement. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the complexities of labor movements in the British and American contexts during the early 20th century and underscore the importance of transnational connections in the development and spread of labor-related ideologies.
