The 17th-20th Century Correspondence and Documents consists of letters, documents, and various forms of correspondence relating to notable names and celebrities from between 1618 and 1981. These documents have either been transcribed to or from the personalities in question or have been written in discussion of these individuals. Some documents have been previously digitized as a part of the Edward Lear Papers.

: Holograph letter addressed to "Sr"; This letter discusses both family and business matters with correspondent as well as the author's own retirement. The author raises concern about something the two correspondents had previously discussed which has been affected by the death of a man from Sweden.

: Holograph letter from Alfred Austin to Dorothy, October 20, 1892; Alfred Austin discusses a gift from Dorothy's gardener of madonna lily bulbs and helianthus plants. He asks Dorothy to give the gardener a copy of In Veronica's Garden which he has autographed.

: Holograph letter from General George Washington to Ensign Marsh; Undated holograph note from General George Washington to Ensign Marsh invited Mr. Marsh for dinner the following day at three o'clock. Document is accompanied by a contemporary note from 1975 stating the fragile nature of this document.

: Holograph letter from Henry Pennart to the Marquess of Granby, October 2, 1769; Henry Pennart writes to John Manners, the Marquess of Granby, on behalf of Mr. Hall's application for a soon-to-be vacant position in government.

: Holograph letter from John Hinchliffe, September 1783; John Hinchliffe writes congratulating the recipient on their latest appointment and discusses some dispute regarding an artist.

: Holograph note; This note, probably from Samuel Lysons, requests that an advertisement is placed on the cover of The Gentlemen's Magazine that is distinct from Mr. Malcolm's.

: Holograph note with signature from Robert Harley, Earl of Oxford, July 15, 1713; Holograph note fragment signed by Robert Harley, Earl of Oxford on July 15, 1713.

: Holograph poem signed by A.A. Jr., February 1, 1854; Poem, "To Florence," signed by A.A. Jr. from Tallahassee, February 1, 1854. Consists of sixteen lines. May have been written on a flyleaf torn from a book.

: Letter and envelope from Anwar El-Sadat to Charles E. Miller, September 1976; Anwar El-Sadat acknowledges a gift of "colourful volumes" from Charles E. Miller and thanks the Florida State University libraries for their informative collection of books.

: Letter and fragment from Samuel Rogers; This letter is attached to a larger paper consisting of multiple letters and letter fragments from Samuel Rogers to Miss Harriet Moore. A previous owner of the documents indicates who this letter is addressed to by pasting a note inscribed "Miss More" by Samuel Rogers' hand. Mr. Rogers thanks Harriet for her kindness but describes that his sickness is still too "violent" to do any activities.

: Letter card from William Westall to Edmund Downey, March 17, 1892; William Westall transmits an offer from the Authors Syndicate to Edmund Downey, that they want short stories from either him or another author. He mentions in a postscript that he included a story of his in Arrowsmith's Summer Annual publication.

: Letter excerpt from C. Hayden Coffin; In this excerpt from a letter, C. Hayden Coffin discusses becoming a member of "the Association," and sends the recipient a check of ten pounds for the subscription.

: Letter excerpt from C. Hayden Coffin; C. Hayden Coffin wishes to learn more about the rules and objective of the Actors' Association before assisting in the benefit matinée for the association.

: Letter fragment from Samuel Richardson to Miss Highmore, 1757; Fragment from a letter to Miss Highmore from Samuel Richardson. Samuel Richardson discusses love through a metaphor with feathers.

: Letter fragment from Samuel Richardson to Miss Highmore, 1757; Letter fragment from a letter to Miss Highmore from Samuel Richardson. Backside of fragment discusses Wyndham's Estate and a boy's inheritance.

: Letter from 1st Viscount Henry Saint-John Bolingbroke to the Vice Chamberlain, January 28, 1713; In his letter to Thomas Coke, referred to as the Vice Chamberlain, Bolingbroke urgently asks if a location for their "Queen's Commissioners for Trade" meeting with their French counterparts has yet been found.

: Letter from Adams to Lou Whitfield Miller, October 26, 1939; Adams explains their use of Florida as a setting for many short stories. Adams used to spend their winters in Hibernia Florida, but now go to South Carolina.

: Letter from Albert Einstein to Dr. Seymour, June 15, 1946; Albert Einstein writes on the behalf of the Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists to collect funds to "awaken America to the realization that the whole future of mankind is now at stake." They have acquired $60,000 of their $200,000 goal. Einstein says that a friend suggested that Seymour may be willing to help as well.

: Letter from Albur Chevalier to Arthur Moreland, July 6, 1898; Albur Chevalier sends his sincere thanks for Arthur Moreland's "really admirable sketch."

: Letter from Alec Waugh to John Montgomery, April 25, 1962; Alec Waugh thanks John Montgomery for his copy of "Abodes of Love," and wishes him luck with the publishing. Waugh is slightly worried about a man from the Sunday Times saying that he had been around a long time. Waugh theorizes that they wouldn't want him as a routine journalist.
