The 1971 Florida State University Tally Ho featured the editorial cartoons of Doug Marlette, and was not in the traditional yearbook format. This edition had no student portraits, was topical and stylish, and served more as a pamphlet for student causes. The annual publication was discontinued after this edition, along with the student publications department. Marlette attended Florida State University from 1969 to 1971, but stopped six hours short of a degree to become the editorial cartoonist for the Charlotte Observer. He would become best known for his Kudzu comic strip. Marlette died in 2007 at the age of 57.
