Demetrius grew up in Florida in an area where he felt very isolated as a Black queer person. He also talked about coming to FSU and finding a diverse community and the Pride Student Union of which he would become Executive Director. He talked about programming and advocating, at FSU, as well as the queerphobia he encountered when advocating for queer students, such as the pushback PSU received in trying to create gender inclusive housing on campus.
