Interview with Lee Whitaker, November 11, 2020 (a)
Lee begins with sharing early memories of figuring out queer identity in the South, in a Southern Baptist Church, and some of the common interactions they have with cisgender, heterosexual people as a non-binary bisexual person. Lee critically discusses how social media influences LGBTQ+ culture, especially TikTok and the commercialization of LGBTQ+ culture. Lee ends with a discussion on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their gender expression and identity, and the opportunity it provided them to inspect gender performativity.
