Ilan discussed growing up in the conservative Pensacola area as a young trans man, and the early interactions he had with his family regarding gender. He goes on to discuss finding community at college, when he joined an LGBTQ+ group, and the ways this opened him up to larger discussions. Ilan also describes some of the differences in the understanding of masculinity in cisgender heterosexual spaces versus LGBTQ+ spaces.
