Say it in 6: "I keep telling myself 'I'm good.'" Jorge is pursuing a PhD in Criminology at Florida State because of his interest in the causes of crime and how it can be prevented. He was awarded a McKnight Doctoral Fellowship, which for Jorge means much more than simply financial support – it means the encouragement of the McKnight family, including other fellows and mentors to help traverse the challenges of graduate school. Jorge is pursuing his degree for two reasons: first, to develop skills that will enable him to gain a position where he can train the next generation of criminologists; second, to become an example for those who may not believe they are good enough to make their dreams a reality simply because of where they come from.
