"Say it in 6: ""To promote, inspire, and empower others"" Lawrence received a McKnight Doctoral Fellowship to pursue his PhD in Marriage & Family Therapy at Florida State. He is interested in researching how self-perceptions in black males influence academic achievement. He is particularly interested in identifying protective factors that may aid in increasing academic achievement among black males. Lawrence is also interested in understanding how social support is associated with confidence levels for children who have been impacted by divorce. Ultimately he hopes to identify healthier post-divorce adjustment factors for black males. Lawrence benefited greatly financially and also professionally from the McKnight community. In the future, he hopes to bring increased normalcy to the communities he studies as a means of balancing disparities between marginal and dominant demographic groups. "
