Dyan Neary
"Say it in 6: Missing from summary Dyan Neary is pursuing her doctoral degree (PhD) in English with a focus on Creative Writing at the Florida State University College of Arts & Sciences. Her doctoral dissertation is comprised of a series of creative nonfiction vignettes chronicling the birth and evolution of the modern-day American prison. She has created a website aimed to be an instructional tool and a way to showcase interviews with teachers and directors at different prison writing programs around the US. Working at correctional facilities and teen centers alike, Dyan believes that how we advance literacy among communities outside the academy reveals where we as writing scholars, place out attention. It should be incumbent upon us as academics to incorporate serving learning initiatives into our work, and to encourage education across a wide and diverse spectrum of literacy. "
