"Miss Lida McFadden Greensboro Ala." inscribed on cover page
"Mobile 29th. 1865 Mr. Randolph begs that Miss Lida will accept of this - present. He begs that, in stead of a tobacco-bag, she will make him a cravat of a color which please her eyes most. Having this morning given his disgusting pipe to a friend, and being determined never to smoke another, this necktie would not only be more apropos, but more acceptable - that is, if there can in his estimation, be any difference in the valued of gifts from her. Auctor fratisa facit. He hopes Miss Lida will sing these songs for him some day soon. Randolph" inscribed on verso of p. 3
