The guitar-piano chamber music duo presents unique opportunities for performers and composers. Both instruments are perfectly capable of playing melodies, harmonies and contrapuntal music with a variety of timbres and articulation. The warm, rich and intimate sounds of the guitar combined with the color palettes of the piano create many possibilities for a duo chamber music setting. Why is it then that only a small amount of chamber music repertoire has been written for the guitar-piano duo in the last hundred and fifty years?
