Alanna discussed growing up in Texas, living in Tampa as a bisexual woman, and moving to Tallahassee to attend FSU. She talked about going to a Methodist church in Texas and becoming less religious when she moved to Tampa, eventually coming to identify as agnostic. She also talked about finding a sense of community in various activist and journalist groups in Tallahassee and being in a circle of queer friends and allies, as well as the challenges that come with being bisexual.
