Estee Hernandez
"Say it in 6: ""Answer to my immigrant family's prayers."" Estee is pursuing her PhD in Higher Education at Florida State, where she has received a McKnight Dissertation Fellowship. As a first-generation college student, Estee credits her undergraduate mentors – particularly two Hispanic women – with helping her imagine broader horizons for her education and career. As she first encountered research on higher education, she noticed the lack of representation of Latinx students in the literature. She noticed the same lack of representation within college faculties. Part of her motivation to pursue a PhD is to address this gap in scholarship and the academy. Estee's academic and community work is tied to who she is personally: in all her work, she seeks to change structures to make more inclusive environments. "
