Jangra Smriti
"Say it in 6: ""Satisfy the desire for deeper understanding"" Smriti completed her PhD in Learning and Cognition in Florida State University's College of Education. Her dissertation project, "Early Parent-Child Verbal Interactions in Low-Income African-American Families," received the Marvalene Hughes Research Incentive Grant from the Council on Research in Education (CORE) in 2015. This award accelerated the pace of Smriti's doctoral progress, and played an important role in her graduate experience. She provided this advice for future graduate students: first, there are many fellowship opportunities available, but one must seek them out; second, fellowships provide many networking and learning opportunities that are extremely useful to graduate students; and third, the application process is easier if one accepts help from an advisor and/or the Office of Graduate Fellowships and Awards.
