Joel Mendez
"Say it in 6: "Resolve the most complex of issues." Joel is pursuing his PhD in Urban & Regional Planning in Florida State's College of Social Sciences & Public Policy with an aim to developing the skills necessary to tackle the tough issues we face as a nation. His research addresses the impact which transportation investment has on low-income communities and vulnerable populations, specifically its effect on affordable housing, employment opportunities, and the mobility of low-income residents. Joel sees transportation as an aspect of our society that can serve as a key component in addressing the welfare of those in poverty and providing equal opportunity. In recent years, Joel has been awarded a Dwight D. Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship by the Department of Transportation as well as a McKnight Dissertation Fellowship. "
